Our expert Nutritionist shares her go-to snack for little ones!
We asked mum of two and Nutritionist Karina Savage how she encourages positive eating habits in children. One of her tips for parents is to get them involved in food preparation.
"I really like making bliss balls! They can get really hands-on with this recipe. It’s quick and easy, so kids don’t lose interest!"
Here’s how to make Karina’s cacao, coconut and date bliss balls:
"Little ones can roll the balls up, get incredibly messy and even lick their hands at the end!"
Method:
- Place dates in a medium bowl and cover with hot water; and leave for 10 minutes. Drain and discard seeds.
- Blend dates, oats, desiccated coconut and cocoa powder in a food processor.
- Place the extra desiccated coconut into a dish.
- Roll the mixture into bliss balls; then roll in desiccated coconut to coat.
"This is a quick and healthy snack you can make in advance and freeze. Plus, it has no added sugar!"
