How does your formula compare to breast milk?

Breast Milk is the best choice for providing all the essential nutrients, hydration and protective factors a child needs to grow and thrive. It also has benefits for mum, including convenience, strengthening the bond with a child and potentially helping with post-partum weight loss. If you are considering bottle-feeding either partially or exclusively, it is important to seek professional advice from a qualified healthcare practitioner such as your GP or a dietician. Bottle-feeding may adversely affect your ability to breastfeed by reducing your own milk supply which can be difficult to reverse. You should consider the financial and social implications when deciding on a feeding method for your baby such as convenience and cost. Biostime aims to provide adequate nutrition for infants through the proper use of breastmilk substitutes where necessary. When using infant formula always prepare the milk drink by following the instructions on the tin or as advised by a qualified healthcare professional as unnecessary or improper use can affect the health of the baby.

How should my child and I transition from the formula we currently use to Biostime?

To give your child the smoothest transition from their current formula/toddler milk drink to Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS™ Range, it is best to introduce our formula/toddler milk drink gradually. This is to ensure your child’s tiny tummy tolerates the change and that they have a chance to get used to the smooth, milky taste. For more information, we recommend consulting a qualified healthcare professional such as your GP or dietitian.

 

How is the promotion of Infant Milk Formula products regulated?

Biostime is a paediatric nutrition brand with a range of products, including probiotics, toddler milk drinks and infant formula products, available in Australia and globally. Biostime (as part of the H&H group) is a member of the Infant Nutrition Council and signatory to the Marketing in Australia of Infant Formulas Agreement (MAIF Agreement), which is Australia’s response to the World Health Organisation’s International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. We ensure that all marketing materials and distribution complies with the MAIF agreement, in order to protect and promote breastfeeding and to ensure the proper use of breast milk substitutes, when they are necessary, on the basis of adequate information. This includes only promoting our probiotics and toddler milk drinks to the general public and providing education on our range of products to Healthcare Professionals. Biostime Nutrition exists to help support parents in making the best choices; and we acknowledge breastfeeding is best for babies as it provides the optimal balance of nutrition and protection.

 

What is SN-2?

At Biostime, our aim is to combine nature’s goodness with the innovations of today’s science. For over a decade, our research centres have been studying the science behind nature. The SN-2 in Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS Range is a marketing term referring to the power of combining Science and Nature to deliver a next generation formulation.

 

How do I know which product to choose?

Is it normal that my baby has constipation when switching to Biostime product?

A little one's tummy can be sensitive to changes in their environment and diet. There may be a reaction that indicates your little one is not tolerating the sudden change in their diet. When introducing a new formula, you can help your little one adapt by doing so gradually. This will give their digestive system time to process and get used to the new formulation. For more information specific to your child, we recommend speaking to a qualified health care professional such as a GP or a dietitian.

 

Why can I not use hot water with some products?

Hot water should not be used with products containing probiotics, including Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS™ Premium Organic, Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS™ Ultra Goat, Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS™ HPO, and Biostime Infant Probiotics with Vitamin D. To avoid destroying the good bacteria, please use cooled boiled water, that has cooled to 40º C or less in temperature. When using any product always prepare following the instructions on the packaging or as advised by a qualified healthcare professional or improper use can affect the health of your child.

 

As parents, we have allergies to some ingredients. How will we know if specific Biostime products will be suitable for our baby?

Biostime follows the requirements of Foods Standards Australia & New Zealand (FSANZ) for the Biostime SN-2 BIO PLUS™ range & the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for the supplement range. For every product there is an allergy warning on the label which provides details of common allergens that the product may contain. If there are specific ingredients you would like to know about, please do not hesitate to contact us. We also advise parents to consult a qualified healthcare professional to discuss your particular allergies and the options best suited for your little one.
